Tympanoplasty

The tympanoplasty is a surgical procedure to reconstruct the eardrum which has undergone piercing due to chronic or acute otitis, allowing the reconstruction of the ossicular chain destroyed.

In normal hearing, sound waves are conducted from the eardrum to the oval window of the inner ear by a chain of three ossicles (hammer, stirrup, anvil).

In acute or chronic middle ear infections, destruction or erosion of these ossicles may occur, compromising sound transmission. In these cases, tympanoplasty provides a unique opportunity to regain lost hearing.
