Intra-Gastric Balloon

The Intra-Gastric Balloon is a treatment for obesity without surgery. It is placed in about 20 minutes. The process involves introducing a silicon ball in the stomach endoscopically and then fill it with physiological saline until occupy a time sufficient for producing a permanent state of satiety volume.

The balloon is housed in the stomach for six months, in which the patient performs an absolutely normal life. The difference is that when it feeds, will not have the feeling of having so much appetite and with little amount of food, can be satisfied by reducing the amount of food eaten, contributing to the loss of excess weight, improving patient health.

The patient receives medical care that encourages and helps, watching your daily diet, so that your diet is rich and complete, after applying the intra-gastric balloon. During the six months of use, the patient is taught to eat healthily, modifying dietary habits, succeeding in improving health and quality of life.

Usually, after six months, we withdraw the Intra-Gastric Balloon, unless the doctor recomends to do it sooner.

It is usual that during the first 3 days after application, it may cause nausea or vomiting, which disappear with time, when the stomach gets used to his presence.

It is a less invasive and less aggressive treatment, when compared with other available treatments for obesity, including:

  • Gastric Bypass
  • Gastric banding,
  • POSE or gastric tube (gastric plications) method.
